The bus took us directly to our hotel in Lyon. It was about 5 hours on the bus but again we visited some of the best rest stops in the world. Glorious food, outdoor playgrounds and plentiful bathrooms. Who could ask for more? Once in Lyon we enjoyed a quick tour of the city and found various places to stop. Including places to purchase tickets for the city's mass transit, i.e. funiculars and busses.
When in a foreign land follow the locals and don't be afraid to pick up a discarded ticket if yours is not working. Sometimes it will get your day going. |
A Large City
Lyon was the largest city that we had visited since Paris. It was large enough that we could not walk from end to end and that the mass transit was the way to go for most of our stops. We took the funicular up the hill to the Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière. From there we walked to the Lugdunum Museum and Roman theatres. After coming back down the hill, we purchased our lunch from a Monop' near Place Bellecour. When on a My Way tour be open to the possibilities, visit food stalls, grocery stores, and small shops. You will find amazing things both familiar and exotic. Then we adventured out to the Musée des Confluences. The museum looks at the story of mankind and the history of life. I think the most magnificent part besides the vivid and graphic displays was the actual location and architecture of the museum.
